Entry Requirements for the BIT Degree
You need to meet one of these routes:
- A/L route: a Credit (C) pass or above in O/L Mathematics, and at least three simple (S) passes in A/L main subjects at one sitting after 2000 (or four passes at one sitting before 2000).
- NVQ route: an NVQ Level 4, or a one-year full-time Level 5 qualification, from a TVEC-accredited institute or a Government Technical College, plus a C pass in O/L Mathematics and six O/L subjects at one sitting.
- International syllabus route: O/L and/or A/L under an international syllabus with results equal to route 1.
Aptitude test: applicants under the NVQ route and the international-syllabus route must pass an aptitude test before they can register.
Lateral entry
- SLIATE HNDIT holders (full-time with six months’ training, or part-time with 12 months’ training) can apply for lateral entry. Level 3 fee: Rs. 120,000.
- ITUM NDT in IT holders who have finished all modules except Industrial Training I and II can register; the degree is awarded only after the training and the NDT are completed. Level 3 fee: Rs. 150,000.
- Students who completed Level 1, or Levels 1 and 2, under the BIT 2018 curriculum can register as lateral entrants.
Fees in Detail
- Standard route: Rs. 90,000 for Level 1, Rs. 60,000 for Level 2 and Rs. 50,000 for Level 3, paid in two semester instalments each year.
- Lateral entry students also pay for any remaining Level 1 and 2 modules (Rs. 2,250тАУ2,750 per module by credit value) and Rs. 1,500 per module for continuous assessment. Paying the lateral fee in instalments adds Rs. 2,500 per semester.
- If you study through a partner organisation, you also pay that organisation’s lecture fee, which it sets itself.
- Payments go to the University of Moratuwa account at any Bank of Ceylon branch, using the paying-in voucher, with “Bachelor of Information Technology” as the programme name.
The fee page shows the registration fee in two ways (Rs. 2,000 in one table, Rs. 200 in another), though the level totals are the same. Confirm the split with CODL before you pay.
How to Apply, Step by Step
- Check that you meet one entry route above.
- Apply online through the official BIT website before 31 October 2026.
- Pay the application fee at Bank of Ceylon and keep the original slip.
- Bring originals and one copy of each document on the document verification date CODL gives you: NIC or passport, birth certificate, O/L and A/L certificates (or your alternative qualification), and the bank slip. Lateral entrants also bring their HNDIT or NDT transcript and certificate.
