The Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) offers a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree through its Department of Legal Studies, in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. This guide sets out the OUSL LLB degree entry requirements, the selection test, the fees and the contacts, using only what OUSL’s own programme page states.
Application status on 15 October 2026: OUSL’s programme finder did not list the LL.B among its upcoming programmes, and the programme page gives no closing date. The page is the 2025/2026 prospectus, so confirm the current call, fees and dates with the Department before you plan around them.

Who Can Apply
OUSL lists the following routes. You need any one of them and you must also pass the selection test.
- Three passes in any three subjects at one sitting of the G.C.E. Advanced Level, in any stream.
- Four passes under the old A/L syllabus, with at least three of them at one sitting, in any stream.
- 30 course credits at SLQF Level 2 or above from an OUSL programme.
- An equivalent or higher qualification that the OUSL Senate accepts.
Attorneys-at-Law of the Supreme Court may seek direct entry into Level 4 and are exempted from Level 3.
How the Fees Are Paid
The page states the fee as Rs. 2,180 per credit, which gives Rs. 286,140 for the 123 credits. Payment is in two instalments: 70% first, and the 30% balance after 6 months. A registration fee of Rs. 3,100 is listed separately. These are the local-student figures on the 2025/2026 prospectus page, so check the current prospectus before you budget.
What the Official Page Does Not State
- The closing date and the date and format of the selection test.
- The SLQF level of the degree.
- The delivery mode and study centres.
- Any exemption from, or link to, Sri Lanka Law College or the legal profession. Neither OUSLтАЩs programme page nor its prospectus states one, so do not rely on social-media posts that claim an exemption or direct entry. Ask Sri Lanka Law College directly about the entry route for LL.B graduates: Law College admissions, inquiries@sllc.ac.lk, +94 11 247 3119.
BrightNook Tips Before You Apply
- Write to the Department (llbselection@ousl.lk) and ask whether a new call for applications is planned and when.
- Check which entry route fits you: A/L passes at one sitting, the old-syllabus route, or 30 OUSL credits.
- Budget for the whole degree, not only the first instalment, and keep the application and registration fees separate in your plan.
- Read the current prospectus as well as the programme page, because dates and fees change from year to year.
- If you are weighing this against a campus degree, see our guide to how university admission works.
