NAITA (the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority) runs full-time apprentice courses at its Industrial Engineering Training Institute (IETI) in Moratuwa. Its July 2026 recruitment notice lists 13 trades, entry from Grade 8 or O/L depending on the course, and an NVQ Level 4 certificate on completion. This guide sets out the entry rules, fees, course lengths and application steps exactly as the official notice gives them, so you can plan before the next intake is announced.
Check the date first: the July 2026 intake closed on 30 April 2026. NAITA’s notice does not say when the next intake will be advertised. Watch naita.gov.lk and use this page to prepare. Fees and entry rules can change between intakes.

The notice uses slightly different names for two courses on different pages (Refrigeration and Air Conditioning тАЬMechanicтАЭ and тАЬTechnicianтАЭ, and Wood тАЬCraftsmanтАЭ and тАЬCarpenter (Furniture)тАЭ). They appear to be the same courses, so confirm the exact title on the application form.
Entry Requirements by Course

How the July 2026 Intake Applied
- Prepare an A4 application, or download the form from naita.gov.lk.
- Pay the LKR 1,000 application fee at the bank branch named in the notice. The receipt must show your name and NIC number. Attach the original and keep a photocopy.
- Attach a photocopy of your NIC and a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
- List three preferred courses in priority order, based on your qualifications.
- Send everything by registered post to the Director/Principal, IETI, at the address above, with тАЬRecruitment of Apprentices тАУ July 2026 BatchтАЭ written on the top left of the envelope.
The notice says the institute is not responsible for lost or delayed mail. Selection is by interview, with a written aptitude test (the notice is not consistent on whether the test is always held or only when applications exceed the places available).
What the Notice Does Not State
- How many places each course has.
- Interview, test or results dates.
- Any allowance for on-the-job training. The only allowance mentioned is LKR 5,000 a month for students from low-income families.
- When the next intake will be advertised.
Ask the institute on 011 2641092 or check naita.gov.lk before you pay anything. Be careful with social-media posts that quote different ages, allowances or numbers of trades: none of these are in the official notice.
Where this fits: an NVQ Level 4 certificate is a vocational qualification. To see how it compares with other levels, read our NVQ levels explained guide, and see the vocational education guide for the other routes.
BrightNook Tips
- Match your results to the course before you choose. The courses ask for different O/L subjects, and a single missing pass can rule you out.
- Weigh fee against length. The three-year тАЬSpecialтАЭ courses cost LKR 150,000, while the one-year ICT and Computer Graphic Designer courses cost LKR 40,000.
- Use your three preferences. List them in the order you want them, and only choose courses you qualify for.
- Keep every receipt and the registered-post slip. You may need them if your application is queried.
