The SLIATE HND admission process is the main route into the Higher National Diploma programmes at the 19 Advanced Technological Institutes (ATIs) of the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education. Full-time programmes are free of charge, and selection is by Z-score or a marking scheme depending on the course. This guide uses SLIATE’s official 2026 admission guideline and its 2025 gazette notice, so you know what to prepare before the next call.
Check the timing: SLIATE calls HND applications once a year at apply.sliate.ac.lk. The 2026 call originally closed on 3 August 2026 and was extended to 17 August 2026, so it has ended. The next call date has not been announced. Dates and fees below come from the 2026 guideline unless marked 2025.

Who Can Apply
- G.C.E. A/L: pass all three main subjects in one sitting. General English does not count as one of the three.
- G.C.E. O/L: an ordinary pass in English and Mathematics. HND in English (full-time) needs a credit pass in English.
- Stream rules: HNDA, HNDBA and HNDBF need the Commerce stream (HNDA also needs Accounting); the engineering programmes need Physical Science; HNDIT, HNDPM and HNDTHM accept any stream.
- Part-time: you must be employed or self-employed in a relevant field and show legal documents at the interview.
In the 2025 notice SLIATE gave preference to full-time applicants under 23 and to those who had passed the A/L most recently, and stated no other age limit. Check the current guideline for the same rule.
Know the university rule. According to the 2025 notice, students enrolled in a full-time HND of three years or more (HNDA, HNDE, HNDBSE, HNDT, HNDM, HNDTHM) cannot enter government universities under the University Act No. 16 of 1978. Read this before you choose.

If you have no internet access, you can get free help at your nearest ATI.

- Pay only through official channels listed on apply.sliate.ac.lk, never through an agent.
