When exam results are released, the official site gets busy and unofficial websites flood social media with links. This guide shows how to check your own results on the Department of Examinations’ official website, what you need ready, and what to do if something looks wrong.
What you need before you start
- Your index number from your admission card, or your NIC where the form allows it.
- The name of the exam and the year you sat it.
- A phone or computer with internet access.
Step-by-step: check your results on doenets.lk
- Open the Department of Examinations website, www.doenets.lk, typing the address yourself rather than following a link from social media.
- Click School Exam Results in the top menu.
- Under “Select the Exam”, choose your examination. At the time of writing the list on the page included the G.C.E. (A/L) examination (after re-scrutiny), the G.C.E. (O/L) examination (after re-scrutiny) and the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination.
- Select the year.
- Enter your index number or NIC in the fields provided.
- Press Submit. You can use the Print button on the page to print the result sheet.
Results, certificates and verification are different things
The Department of Examinations website lists these as separate services. A result sheet shows your grades. The Online Certificates service, listed on the home page for G.C.E. (O/L) and G.C.E. (A/L), is for obtaining your certificate. The site also has a Verification of Results service. For the certificate process, read our guide on how to request exam certificates online.
If the site is slow or something looks wrong
- Wait a little and try again. Busy periods right after a release can slow the site.
- Double-check the exam, the year and every digit of your index number.
- If you still have a problem, contact the Department. The site lists a hotline of 1911, the email exams@doenets.lk and the telephone numbers +94 11 2786200 and +94 11 2784203-4.
What to do after you see your results
If you sat the A/L, your next step is university selection. Read how university admission works, then check which A/L subjects different courses need. If you are choosing an A/L stream after O/L, see how to choose your A/L stream.
