Northern Province ICT Officer Exam 2026: 2 Vacancies, Eligibility and How to Apply

The Provincial Public Service Commission of the Northern Province has called applications for the open competitive examination to recruit Information and Communication Technology Officers to Grade II of Class 2 in 2026. Applications must reach the Commission by 30 October 2026. Who Can Apply

You need one of these qualifications:

1. A degree in Computer Science or Information Technology from a university or degree-awarding institute recognised by the UGC.
2. A degree with Computer Science or IT as a main subject, where at least one third of the degree is CS or IT, or a Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science or IT.
3. Any UGC-recognised degree together with a postgraduate degree in Computer Science or IT.
4. NVQ Level 7 or an equivalent TVEC-recognised qualification, together with two years of IT work experience in a state or semi-government institution or another TVEC-recognised institution.

You must also be a Sri Lankan citizen of good character and good health.

Northern Province residence rule

You must have lived permanently in the Northern Province for at least three continuous years within the six years before the closing date. If you or your parents were born in the Northern Province, the notice asks for at least five continuous years of permanent residence. The electoral register is checked at the interview.

Exam Papers

• Paper 1, Information and Communication Technology: 2 hours, 100 marks. Covers ICT principles, computer architecture, operating systems, office software, hardware, data communication, networks, the internet, web design, email and project life cycles.
• Paper 2, Aptitude: 1 hour, 100 marks, 50 questions, all compulsory.
• Paper 3, General Intelligence: 1 hour, 100 marks, 50 questions, all compulsory.

To pass, you need at least 40% in each paper and at least 50% of the total. You choose Sinhala or Tamil medium on the form, and you cannot change it later. Those who pass are called to an interview in merit order. The interview checks qualifications and carries no marks.

How to Apply

1. Download the application form and circular from the Northern Provincial Council notice page, in Tamil or Sinhala.
2. Pay the Rs. 500 exam fee at a Divisional Secretariat in the Northern Province, in favour of the Provincial Public Service Commission, Northern Province. Attach the receipt in the box on the form. The fee is not refundable.
3. Get your signature certified by one of the officers listed in the notice, such as a Grama Niladhari or a Justice of the Peace.
4. Write NP/07/10/01/236 at the top left of the envelope.
5. Send it by registered post to: Secretary, Provincial Public Service Commission, No. 393/48, Kovil Road, Nallur, Jaffna, so that it arrives on or before 30 October 2026.

What the Notice Does Not State

The notice does not give the exact exam date, the venue, the closing time on 30 October, or the interview dates. The Sinhala version has some text encoding errors, and one section mentions postings anywhere in the Northern Province while another mentions anywhere in the island. Check the Tamil circular, which prevails, and ask the Commission if anything is unclear.
